The IIUM Engineering Journal (indexed in Scopus) is pleased to announce an open invitation for high-quality review papers focusing on the latest advances and emerging trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various engineering and applied domains. This special call aims to curate authoritative, comprehensive, and well-structured reviews that consolidate current knowledge and inspire future research directions in AI-driven innovations.

Scope of Topics

We invite submissions covering, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • AI in Medical and Healthcare Systems
    (diagnosis, precision medicine, biomedical signal/image analysis, decision support)
  • AI in Agriculture and Environmental Monitoring
    (crop yield prediction, smart irrigation, pest control, sustainability analytics)
  • AI in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems
    (predictive maintenance, quality control, process optimization, digital twins)
  • AI in Object Detection and Computer Vision
    (autonomous vehicles, security systems, remote sensing, robotics)
  • AI in Energy and Smart Grids
    (demand forecasting, renewable integration, fault detection)
  • AI in Education, Communication, and Social Systems
    (learning analytics, natural language understanding, intelligent tutoring)
  • AI Frameworks, Ethics, and Explainability (XAI)
    (responsible AI, fairness, transparency, bias mitigation, and governance)

Review Paper Criteria

To ensure scholarly excellence and impact, all invited review papers must:

  1. Provide a comprehensive synthesis of recent advancements (preferably within the past 5–7 years).
  2. Demonstrate critical analysis, highlighting major trends, methodological developments, and existing research gaps.
  3. Include comparative evaluation of key algorithms, datasets, or frameworks.
  4. Offer clear insights into emerging opportunities and future research directions.
  5. Reference recent and reputable works, with a strong focus on high-impact journals and conferences (suggested: ≥50 references, not exceeding 120).
  6. Maintain academic rigor and clarity, ensuring accessibility to both specialists and interdisciplinary readers.
  7. Follow the IIUMEJ format for manuscripts, including Abstract, Introduction, Review Methodology, Thematic Sections, Comparative Discussion, Future Outlook, and Conclusions.

  • Reference Limit: Not more than 120 references.

  • APC: Standard APC of RM 1200/USD 300 (International Authors) and RM 1000 (Local Authors)
