Categories of Disease According to the Qurʾān: A Thematic Analysis

This study aims to shed light on the categories of diseases from a Qurʾanic perspective through inductive and analytical approaches. The research concluded that: the root cause of disease according to the Qur’an is deficiency - and its various derivations have been repeated in the Qur’an twenty-four times; the necessity of preserving physical health from lack of strength, and preserving spiritual health from lack of faith - and that the infinitive form of the verb disease is the most mentioned in the Noble Qur’an, and came in the context of dissimulation from the attributes of the hypocrites; to the disease of the soul is more dangerous and deadly than the disease of the physical body. Three types of disease have also been identified in the Qur’an: physical illness, mental illness, and spiritual illness.
