The elegy ‘Tafa Yabghi Najwah’ brought much attention of old critics. Through the years, critics and rhetoricians have variant views of it. Although the lines of the elegy in this study had appeared in several folkloric resources, with different number of lines and different wording in some cases and under different poets, there was no single comprehensive study that documents the whole lines of the elegy, its attribution (writer) and the views of old and contemporary critics of the poem. Therefore, this study will focus on two points: verifying the documentation of the lines of the elegy and its writer (the poet). It will also track down the viewpoints of the old and modern critics of the poem itself. In addition, the study will investigate the peculiarities of the poem and grasp its horizons that manifest man’s view of life and death. It finally concentrates on the event of death itself rather than the lamented person.
