Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submitions has not been published elsewhere, and it is not under consideration by other publication.
  • The submission is MS Word documents.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in the Author Guidelines have been followed.

Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

at-Tajdid is a refereed journal, and publication decisions are made based on the recommendations of at least two experts in the relevant field.

1. General Requirements

  1. Submitted manuscripts must be original, demonstrating novelty, authenticity, and objectivity. Authors must confirm that their work has not been previously published or submitted to another journal or as part of a book.

  2. The author’s name should appear in the manuscript. In the footnote, the author’s academic title, specialization, institutional affiliation, and email address must be provided.

  3. The plagiarism similarity index should not exceed 25% (excluding sources and references). Authors must attach proof of plagiarism screening from Turnitin.

  4. Manuscripts should be between 5,000 and 7,000 words, including footnotes and references. An abstract of 200–250 words must be provided in both Arabic and English. The total number of pages should be between 15 and 30 pages, including footnotes and references.

  5. The manuscript should be formatted as follows:

    For Arabic Text:

    • Text: Traditional Arabic (Size 16)

    • Footnotes: Traditional Arabic (Size 12)

    • Latin and Foreign References: Times New Roman (Size 12) for text, (Size 10) for footnotes

    For English Text:

    • Text: Times New Roman (Size 12)

    • Footnotes: Times New Roman (Size 10)

    • Latin and Foreign References: Times New Roman (Size 12) for text, (Size 10) for footnotes

  6. Quranic verses must be fully vowelized (tashkeel) using Traditional Arabic font and enclosed in ornate brackets. They should not be copied from digital versions such as the Mushaf Madinah software. The verse citation should immediately follow within square brackets:

    • Example: ﷽بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيْمِ﷾ [Al-Fātiḥah: 1].

  7. Footnotes should be reset for each page, and their numbers should be placed after punctuation marks. They should not be enclosed in parentheses or followed by additional punctuation.

The at-Tajdid editorial board reserves the right to reject any submission that does not comply with the guidelines or citation standards.

(A) First-time Citation Format

Books

Author, Title in Bold (Place of Publication: Publisher, Edition, Year), Vol., Page.

  • Example:

    • Al-Shāfiʿī, Muḥammad ibn Idrīs, Al-Umm (Beirut: Dār al-Maʿrifah, 1st ed., n.d.), vol. 2, p. 214.

Journal Articles

  • Example:

(B) Repeated Citations

  • If citing the same reference in the next footnote: Previous reference, Vol., Page.

  • If citing the same reference with the same volume and page in the next footnote: Ibid.

  • If citing the same reference at a later point in the manuscript: Author’s last name, Shortened Title in Bold, Vol., Page.

(C) Hadith Citation

  • For Hadith from Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim:

    • Example: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Zakāh, Chapter: "Can One Buy His Own Charity?", vol. 2, p. 85.

  • For Hadith outside of these sources:

    • The authenticity rating (ḥasan, ḍaʿīf, etc.) must be included.

(D) Foreign Language References

  • Citations for non-Arabic references must follow the Chicago Style referencing system.

3. Publication Fee

  • IIUM Members (Staff & Students): RM 500

  • Non-IIUM Authors: USD 200
