Well-known Muslim scholar Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas has not gained enough attention from Chinese intellectuals due to the lack of the Mandarin translation of his works. In this book on the Concept of Education in Islam, Prof. al-Attas clarifies the key terms pertaining to Islamic education and also defines education from an Islamic perspective and explains taʿlīm as the corresponding term used in Islamic tradition as well as referring to teaching. He stresses the importance of ādāb whose original meaning has gradually changed and limited. He establishes a very important concept of Islamization, with which he lays the foundation for the concept of an Islamic university and the framework of an Islamic education system.
