This study attempts to theoretically study a fundamental rule of “Exclusion as the standard of Generality” in the discipline of Usūl. It aims at looking into the dependency of Ibnu ‘Uthaimeen’s on it as a deductive tool and its influence of his scholarly views. It explains his objectives in using this rule while mentioning his relevant scholarly examples in this regard. The study follows the descriptive analytical methods. Among the conclusions of the study are: the overall meaning of the principle is that the permissibility of exclusion from a term is considered the measurement of its generality. Most of the scholars were utilizing this tool as well. Its usage depends on two conditions: the exclusion must be real and must be from an infinite meaning. Ibnu ‘Uthaimin had used this principle in many occasions but with different objectives in accordance with many perspectives.
