Publication Ethics Statement

The Journal of Islam in Asia (JIA), is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in scholarly publishing. The journal upholds the principles outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), including the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing and the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors. All parties involved—editors, authors, reviewers, and the publisher—are expected to act in accordance with these ethical principles.

Scope and Focus

Journal of Islam in Asia welcomes original research that critically explores challenges faced by Muslim communities in Asia and presents new, insightful Islamic responses to contemporary issues. The journal encourages interdisciplinary scholarship that engages with Islamic thought and practice in the context of modern global and regional developments.

Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to JIA undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure fairness and objectivity. Both the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential. Prior to review, manuscripts are screened by the Editorial Committee for alignment with the journal’s scope and adherence to submission guidelines. Each manuscript is typically reviewed by one qualified reviewer, selected either from the editorial board or an external pool of experts. The review timeline may vary depending on reviewer availability and the nature of the manuscript.

Publication Frequency

Journal of Islam in Asia is published biannually, with issues released in June and December. The journal may also publish special issues based on collaborative initiatives with academic institutions or conferences.

Open Access Policy

JIA is a fully open access journal. All published articles are freely accessible to the public without subscription or access fees. While there are no article processing charges (APCs), authors are required to pay a publication fee of RM500 upon acceptance of their article for publication.

Duties of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring a fair, impartial, and timely editorial process. Manuscripts are evaluated solely on academic merit, relevance, originality, and clarity, without bias related to the authors’ background or institutional affiliation. Editors are expected to manage conflicts of interest, maintain confidentiality, and take appropriate action in response to ethical concerns or allegations of misconduct.

Duties of Authors

Authors must ensure the originality of their work and avoid plagiarism, data fabrication, or redundant publication. All sources must be properly cited, and appropriate acknowledgments given. Submissions must not be under review elsewhere. Authors are also responsible for disclosing any potential conflicts of interest and reporting any errors discovered post-publication to facilitate correction or retraction.

Duties of Reviewers

Reviewers play a vital role in maintaining the academic integrity of the journal. They are expected to provide objective, constructive, and timely feedback while maintaining the confidentiality of the review process. Reviewers must recuse themselves from evaluating any manuscript in which they have a conflict of interest and should notify the editors of any ethical concerns they encounter.

Research and Publication Misconduct

The Journal of Islam in Asia strictly prohibits plagiarism, falsification of data, duplicate publication, and other forms of academic misconduct. Allegations of unethical behavior will be investigated in line with COPE guidelines, and necessary corrective actions—such as rejection, retraction, or formal notice—will be taken where appropriate.
