It is our obligation as Muslims to ensure that we adhere to Islam in all aspects of life including our promotional strategies. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was very particular about the notion of truthfulness and other Islamic values in business as outline by several Ḥadīth. As such, entrepreneurs should adopt Islamic values for their businesses. The study embraces a qualitative content analysis research design that analyses nine IMC campaigns carried out for Gombak entrepreneurs in Kampung Kerdas, Kampung Tengah, and Kampung Laksamana in 2024. The theoretical framework encompasses the five elements of Maqāsid Sharīʿah. By adopting an inductive approach, the study seeks to uncover more elements that could be added to the initial theoretical framework. A framework is produced for Islamic IMC campaigns generated from the research findings as part of the study’s recommendations. The framework would help guide future Muslim entrepreneurs who intend to target the Muslim market.
2025-12-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 https://journals.iium.edu.my/jiasia/index.php/jia/article/view/1297 Implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) for Culinary Students At SMKN 3 Pekan Baru 2025-12-31T17:04:10+08:00 Raihanatu Binqalbi Ruzain raihanatu.binqolbi@psy.uir.ac.id Rangga Adhitya Rosman ranggaadhityarosman@student.uir.ac.id Dede Suhada dedesuhada@student.uir.ac.id Maisaroh maisaroh641@student.uir.ac.id Rani Tri Abelia ranitriabelia@student.uir.ac.id Agustin Dwi Rahmah Putri agustindwirahmaputri453@student.uir.ac.id
Occupational health and safety (OSH) is very important for vocational high school (SMK) students, especially those majoring in culinary arts. The understanding given to students from an early age can minimize work accidents among students, especially when practicing in class and in their work environment. Based on the results of observations in the field, namely 1) lack of awareness and understanding of students about the importance of OSH and the consequences of non-compliance with safety protocols. 2) consistency in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Although students generally use PPE such as aprons and chef's hats, there is still a lack of consistent use of masks and gloves. The solutions provided are 1) increasing students' knowledge and understanding of OSH, which is expected to be reflected in their daily behavior in the kitchen. 2) increasing the level of student compliance in using PPE during cooking practice, which will contribute to improving their safety and health in the kitchen. The results of this educational activity succeeded in increasing understanding of OSH mechanisms. Although there is an increase in knowledge scores, this result is not yet statistically significant, but can be considered a first step in forming more adaptive patterns of thinking and action.
2025-12-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 https://journals.iium.edu.my/jiasia/index.php/jia/article/view/1298 The Concept of Patience in Literary Psychology (An Empirical Study on the Malay Society in Riau) 2025-12-31T17:13:59+08:00 Ahmad Hidayat ahmadhidayat@psy.uir.ac.id Lisfarika Napitupulu lisfarika@psy.uir.ac.id
The psychological value of patience in Gurindam 12 has garnered significant attention from various scientific perspectives. Literary psychology regards literary works as psychological expressions imbued with distinct psychological values. This study integrates empirical psychological analysis with an exploration of the literary dimensions of Gurindam 12. Employing a qualitative grounded theory approach, the research seeks to uncover the concept of patience within Gurindam 12 and examine its practical application in the daily lives of the Malay community in Riau. The research subjects include honest canteen owners at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Islam Riau, who belong to the Riau Malay community. The findings reveal five dimensions of patience: (1) Positive Thinking, (2) Perseverance, (3) Acceptance of Reality, (4) Sincerity, and (5) Self-Control. These findings offer valuable insights and provide a foundation for developing an Eastern-oriented patience measurement tool for researchers interested in further advancing this field.
2025-12-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of Islam in Asia (E-ISSN 2289-8077) https://journals.iium.edu.my/jiasia/index.php/jia/article/view/1299 Dating and Periodization in Islamic Historiography: A Comparative Study of Early Islamic Historical Works up to the 5th Century of the Hijrī 2025-12-31T17:21:21+08:00 Metin Zengin metin_34@yahoo.com Fauziah Fathil fauziahfathil@iium.edu.my
Dating and periodization are fundamental frameworks for interpreting historical records. In the case of pre-Islamic Arabs, their use of a complex and variable calendar system significantly influenced the dating and periodization found in early Islamic historical sources. Although the majority of Islamic historiographical works were written after the adoption of the Hijrī calendar, narratives concerning the pre-Hijrah period within these texts still reflect the effects of the earlier variable calendar system. Muslim historians compiled extensive historical records and structured them into periods based on key events in Arabian history, including wars, natural disasters, and significant milestones in the life of the Prophet. This study examines how Muslim historiography integrated external chronological frameworks, particularly those derived from non-Muslim sources, while contextualizing them within the emerging Islamic historical tradition. Focusing on the earliest historical works written by Muslim scholars up to the 5th Century of the Hijrī, the research highlights the interplay between inherited systems of dating and the development of a distinct Islamic historiographical identity.
2025-12-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of Islam in Asia (E-ISSN 2289-8077) https://journals.iium.edu.my/jiasia/index.php/jia/article/view/1300 Chinese Students' Pronunciation Errors in Arabic Speaking Skills 2025-12-31T17:27:33+08:00 Asem Shehadeh Saleh Ali muhajir4@iium.edu.my Wei Jing 1764602867w@gmail.com
This study investigates pronunciation errors in Arabic among Chinese students at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Pronunciation is crucial for mastering a language, as it serves as a fundamental skill for effective communication. Research indicates that a person's first language significantly influences their pronunciation of a second language, often leading to difficulties and errors. The distinct differences between Chinese and Arabic pronunciation pose considerable challenges for Chinese native speakers learning Arabic as a second language. Given that pronunciation is a key component of language acquisition, it is essential to conduct a thorough examination of these issues to understand students' pronunciation challenges and their underlying causes. This understanding can aid both teachers and students in developing effective pedagogical strategies and solutions. To accomplish the objectives of this study, one researcher conducted in-depth interviews with Chinese students from various Kulliyyahs at IIUM and recorded their pronunciation for comparative analysis. The results reveal that the most challenging sounds for Chinese students are those that do not exist in Mandarin, such as (أ، ه، ح، خ، ع، غ، ص، ط، ظ، ض), among others. These findings highlight the need for targeted instructional approaches that address specific phonetic difficulties. In conclusion, the researcher proposes solutions based on the identified challenges and their root causes, which could significantly enhance the Arabic learning experience for Chinese students.
2025-12-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of Islam in Asia (E-ISSN 2289-8077) https://journals.iium.edu.my/jiasia/index.php/jia/article/view/1303 Muslim Women, Agency and Work: An Exploration of Maqāṣid Perspective 2026-01-01T06:54:21+08:00 Zulqernain Haider Subhani zhaider@iium.edu.my
This article presents an in-depth theoretical examination of women’s agency in the context of their participation in work through Maqāṣid al-Sharīꜥah, as articulated in contemporary Muslim scholarship. The concept of agency is critically analysed, highlighting the autonomy and capacity of women to make independent decisions, exert influence, and assert their authority across various life domains. Historical discourse on this subject within Islamic literature has been scarce, often overshadowed by intricate socio-cultural dynamics. However, a discernible shift has emerged in recent times, marked by the enlightened contributions of contemporary Muslim scholars who have offered profound insights into the constructs of women’s agency and their significant roles in work. The methodology of content analysis is utilized to integrate and critically assess ongoing scholarly conversations, thereby deepening the understanding of women’s agency and its expansive implications within socio-political and religious spheres. The study places particular emphasis on the intrinsic objectives of Sharīꜥah—namely, the promotion of humanity (al-Insāniyyah), dignity (al-Karāmah), freedom (al-Ḥurriyyah), justice (al-ꜥAdl) and equality (al-Musāwāt). By anchoring the discussion in the principles of Maqāṣid al-Sharīꜥah, this work delineates the pivotal role of agency in fostering the social, religious, and existential advancement of Muslim women, as well as in realizing the core objectives of Sharīꜥah while also demarcating the Islamic conceptualization of agency from feminist narratives.
2025-12-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2026 https://journals.iium.edu.my/jiasia/index.php/jia/article/view/1304 The Concept of Punishment for Adultery in Islamic Sharia Law in Kelantan for the Year of 2015 2026-01-01T07:08:20+08:00 Kamarudin Awang Mat kamarudin@unisza.edu.my
Adultery is a social crime that has been prohibited by divine religions, positive laws, and social customs because it is totally contradicted with the moral principles. This is due to the fact that it involves a violation of honor and leads to confusion in lineage. It is not, as some misguided individuals claim, merely a personal matter carried out by mutual consent between a man and a woman. Islam has sufficiently clarified the seriousness of this crime, and Islamic legislation has specified its ruling and the punishment for its perpetrator, as detailed by jurists in their works, so that people have no excuse before God for violating His sacred limits in this world and the Hereafter. The concept of the crime of adultery, as stated in Sharia Law is the prescription of punishment (ḥadd) for adultery as well as deterring people from approaching it. This study addresses the definition of adultery and its essential elements as explained by the jurists in their classical writings, in comparison with the Sharia Criminal Law of the State of Kelantan (2015). This research adopts a library-based methodology relying on the works of leading jurists and scholars published throughout the ages in Islamic libraries, focusing on the definition of adultery and its elements as elaborated by jurists, and comparing them with the Sharia Criminal Law of the State of Kelantan (2015). The study centers on the concept of the crime of adultery and its constituent elements. The study demonstrates that Islamic Sharia, with its higher objectives, aims to preserve honor and lineage and exhibits great precision in detailing the crime of adultery. It also shows that the law is consistent with Islamic Sharia and serves the best interests of society.
2025-12-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2026
