This paper addresses the question of the importance of competencies (malakat) in human association in light of the vision of Abd al-Rahman ibn Khaldun in his famous introduction. Since the subject of human association is the great achievement and outstanding contribution that Ibn Khaldun made to Islamic thought, it received great attention from scholars, thinkers, and researchers. They studied it from its various dimensions and multiple applications. This paper comes to shed light on this important aspect of the place of malakat and their function in human association and civilisation construction. Hence, the paper aims to show how Ibn Khaldun framed this concept and integrated it within his overall unified human association approach. The paper concluded that the concept of malakat, was one of the most important and mature concepts developed by Ibn Khaldun and linked to the various aspects of human association, such as education, learning and teaching, management and governance, industry, politics, economics, civilisation, religion and others. Ibn Khaldun was able to explain its necessity and the need for it and its functions in human association. The paper recommends the importance of continuing specialised studies on the place and function of malakat in human development, particularly in the fields of economy, education and learning, governance and legitimate politics.
