CLINICAL AND FUNCTIONAL OUTCOME OF OPEN REDUCTION AND INTERNAL FIXATION OF SCAPULA FRACTURE IN ADVANCE TRAUMA CENTRE

Abstract

Scapula fractures usually involving high impact trauma. The indications for operative management in scapula fracture is expanded. Using modified Judet’s approach, open reduction and internal fixation(ORIF) of scapula fracture was performed. The aims of surgery is early rehabilitation of affected limb. In this cross-sectional study, the data collected from January 2017 until June 2019, evaluating the clinical and functional outcomes of ORIF of scapula fracture. The reconstructed CT shoulder used to classify the fracture pattern.  The clinical outcomes of this study include the range of motion, Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand(DASH) score, Visual Analogue Score(VAS) and radiological outcome by assessment post operative. We recorded 35 patients sustained closed displaced fracture of scapula and underwent ORIF. Outcomes recorded during the 30months period. The mean ROM ranged from 82% to 100%. The mean DASH score was 12.1 at final follow-up. The mean decrease of VAS was 83% (6 to 1). The conclusion is operative treatment for displaced scapula fractures can yield good functional outcome.
