Abstract

Mak Teh Enterprise showcases the incorporation of budi sejahtera, reliance and resilience in a 15-year old grocery shop. The primary intention was to serve the community with the budi sejahtera through a simple grocery shop. The support from the family and community is vital and has made Mak Teh Enterprise survive. There is no reason for any commercial entity to incorporate budi sejahtera or charitable intention into the business.

Author Biographies

Yusof Ismail, International Islamic University Malaysia

Yusof Ismail has been a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences at the International Islamic University Malaysia since 1986. He obtained a BS in Finance from Indiana University, Bloomington, the USA, and MBA in Management and Marketing from Murray State University, Kentucky, USA. He then embarked on research into strategic planning in Bradford Management Center, UK. He teaches and researches strategy, entrepreneurship, Islamic management, human resource management, and business ethics.  He is associated with the Islamic perspectives technical committee and working committees at SIRIM, a national organization in industrial research, to fulfill the industry needs by blending innovations with quality and standards.  He can be contacted through email: yusof.edu@gmail.com

Suhaimi Mhd. Sarif, International Islamic University Malaysia

Suhaimi Mhd Sarif has been a lecturer in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences at the International Islamic University Malaysia since 2000. He obtained his BBA from IIUM, MBA in Management from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and Ph.D. in Commerce from Murdoch University, Australia. He teaches and researches in the areas of strategy, Islamic management, knowledge management, social entrepreneurship, and business ethics. His main research interest is the influence of the Tawhidic paradigm on strategic management, business ethics, and entrepreneurship issues. He is associated with the Islamic perspectives working committees at SIRIM, a national organization in industrial research, to fulfill the industry needs by blending innovations with quality and standards.
