Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify the role played by Islamic microfinance in the economic empowerment of women in Yemen. The study adopted a qualitative approach and conducted semi-structured interviews with experts from Islamic microfinance institutions. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis. The results indicate a significant role played by Islamic microfinance in women's economic empowerment, particularly in rural areas. However, these efforts face challenges that hinder women's access to finance and support for their projects. Cultural norms and traditions are considered among the main obstacles, and the financial illiteracy of women is another challenging factor. Additionally, the unstable political situation has a negative impact on women's empowerment opportunities. The research sheds light on the role of Islamic microfinance in women's economic empowerment and serves as a valuable tool for policymakers. It provides a comprehensive view of the situation of Yemeni women and their limited economic empowerment opportunities. With this comprehensive understanding, policymakers can utilize the findings to develop effective strategies and policies that enhance women's role and economic empowerment. Therefore, the research is an important tool for raising awareness about the significance of empowering Yemeni women and directing efforts toward achieving economic equality and sustainable development in the country.
