Asiatic: IIUM Journal of English Language and Literature is highly regarded and indexed by, among others, Scopus, Web of Science and MLA databases. It is also listed in the Council of Editors of Learned Journals. Since it is an open-access journal, it has greater visibility and a large global readership and is widely cited.

â€œAsia-Pacific Writers: Voices from the Centre to the Peripheries,†a special issue of Asiatic, invites submissions of full articles which focus on voices of established and emerging writers in Asia and countries around the Pacific Rim. The Asia-Pacific region covers a huge geographical area which includes East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania. It is a region rich with a vast array of languages, religions, and cultures across the Asia-Pacific, and hence there would be many voices to represent each ethnic group and culture. This special issue of Asiatic aims to develop a new understanding on how recent social, cultural, economic, and political developments are contributing to new discussions about the Centre and Peripheries in this diverse and fast-changing region. How do recent literary and cultural texts from the Asia-Pacific region challenge the idea of Centre and Peripheries? How does the emergence of peripheral literatures offer new, complex identities beyond such binaries? How can recent developments shed new light on our understanding of world literature?

We seek abstracts for papers that will provide new dimensions and perspectives on this area of study. This special issue is scheduled to be published in June 2022.

Areas of interest for this issue broadly include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Wealth and poverty in Asia-Pacific
  • Greening Asia-Pacific
  • Creative arts in Asia-Pacific
  • Religion and spirituality in Asia-Pacific
  • The digital in Asia-Pacific arts and literature
  • Asia-Pacific on film
