Abstract

The spread of COVID-19 disease has since the end of 2019 influenced communities and individuals across the globe and has led to activity disruption in our societies. After experiencing different negative situations during the pandemic, individuals are likely to feel helpless and less effective in an unpredictable way. Therefore, if individuals and communities cannot handle social issues, there may be social consequences like insecurity and instability. This situation has raised awareness that more care about the personal dimension is needed, like mental health, human rights and non-discrimination. The study assumes that the Maqasid al-Shari‘ah approach can provide solutions. Therefore, this paper attempts to offer an approach to evaluating the COVID-19 disease and its impact on social stability through some key issues, highlighting the role of authorities' in providing solutions to current situations and problems. Finally, the article aims to determine the possible answers based on the Maqasid al-Shari‘ah approach. The study adopted the analytical approach, looked into policies and the key issues as a part of social dimensions, discussed the different views on this issue, and then analyzed the problems in the light of Maqasid al-Shari‘ah. The expected results are that the main elements that affected society during the pandemic are: inequality and discrimination, freedom and rights limitation and mental health issues. The expected outcomes also show that these elements are contrary to Maqasid al-Shari‘ah, which is based on protecting Din, life, intellect, lineage and wealth. Therefore, it is necessary to align efforts and plans with Maqasid teachings and implement them continuously. With this, social stability will be sustained and protected in the post-COVID-19 era.
