To achieve this and to gain a better understating of the historical events around this period, a literature review was conducted followed by interviews with six specialists in journalism and culture. The study concluded that social and cultural interactions between Bahrain and other countries created a need for newspapers that can convey the news of the world into Bahrain. It also concluded that Abdulla Al-Zaid played a major role in establishing the first Bahraini newspaper. Other factors affecting the birth of journalism include the influence of Arabic and Islamic journalism on Bahrain, British presence and the establishment of Christian missions. All of these created a cultural and social milieu that motivated some Bahrainis to own media through which they can influence and educate the masses. The establishment of journalism in Bahrain has relied on educational projects and the establishment of cultural and literary clubs and libraries.

Keywords: Bahrain newspaper, Abdulla Al-Zaid, Bahraini openness, Formal education.
Ali Ahmed Abdullah (علي أحمد عبد الله), Shoaib Abdelmoneim Elghobashy (شعيب عبد المنعم الغباشي) Copyright (c) 2019 at-Tajdid - A Refereed Arabic Biannual
التجديد - مجلة فكرية نصف سنوية محكمة Mon, 30 Dec 2019 15:25:56 +0800 القيود الواردة على الكفارات بين حدِّ النص ومقصود الشارع
In some limits of kaffarah, the scriptural text must be adhered to as Allah has ordained following the text, as in the case of murder and zhihar. Thus, it is necessary to follow the letter of the law as in the case of specifying freeing a Muslim in the kaffarah for murder. There is not such specification in the case of zhihar and thus the letter of the law can also be followed. However, the letter of the law can be passed over to the spirit of the law as in the case of paying money instead of food and in the case of paying one poor person instead of sixty poor people. This does not mean it is illegal to offer food as kaffarah or to pay sixty people, for this would mean cancelling the letter of the law. When the spirit of the law is followed, the objectives of the law are achieved, such as satisfying the needs of the poor.

Keywords: Kaffarah and compensation, letter of the law, sharia objective, spirit of the law.
Tamam Odah Alassaf (تمام عودة عبد الله العساف) Copyright (c) 2019 at-Tajdid - A Refereed Arabic Biannual
The term “poetic diction” has become common among critics and researchers as if these words are limited to poetry, without regard to novels. If fact, prose works can have unique diction just like poems. Thus, stylistic studies should not be limited to poetry, especially with reference to a corpus of language. Poets and novelists both try to convey their experience through literary works that express their wealth of diction and variety of words. This variety is an indicator of language mastery and sophistication, according to many critics and linguists. Hence, this study statistically measures the semantic variety in “Al-Taji Birds” and outlines its unique style.

Keywords: Ismail Fahd Ismail, Novel, Language corpus, Variety in diction, Semantic fields.
إيمان Al Mulla (إيمان سعد عبد الرحمن الملاَّ) , Asem Shehadeh Ali (عاصم شحادة علي) Copyright (c) 2019 at-Tajdid - A Refereed Arabic Biannual
التجديد - مجلة فكرية نصف سنوية محكمة Mon, 30 Dec 2019 15:29:49 +0800 توظيف المناظرة في تعليم العربية للناطقين بغيرها: دراسة وصفية تحليلية
The study examines the use of debate as a tool to teach Arabic as a second language based on the strategies of active learning. This debate has had a clear effect on the image of modern Arabic literature and its formation. Calls for renewal could be heard at every stage of literary history, yet one need not go extremes in these calls. In fact, benefitting from tradition and knowing the unique characteristics of each culture and society are important things to consider when discussing renewal and influence. Accordingly, this paper examines the Western influence on Arabic literature in a historical context and discusses modernism and its reflections in Arabic literature as a key example of influence.

Keywords: Arabic literature, Modernism, Western influence.
Adli Bin Yacoob (عدلي بن يعقوب), Gamal Abdelghaffar Ibrahim Badawi (جمال عبد الغفار إبراهيم بدوي) Copyright (c) 2019 at-Tajdid - A Refereed Arabic Biannual
This paper examines simple and complex plots in Saudi poetry as plots are usually the focal point in any literary narrative structure. It seeks to examine the historical development of free verse through its various stages and changes. The study uses inductive, descriptive and analytical approaches to conclude that Arabic free verse has evolved in two main stages; the first is the stage of indicators and the second is the stage of growth. The first stage took place in 1946-1921 and the second stage that included publicity and laying down the foundations and rules started in 1947 till today. There is not a distinguished third stage, and there is not a standout pioneer in the first stage that can champion that period as there were many free verse poems in various newspaper in 1921 in particular. The pioneer of the second stage is Ali Ahmad Bakathir, as detailed in the study.

Keywords: Free verse, Arabic literature, Renewal, Indicators and development.
Abdul Halim Bin Saleh, Mohamed Moussa Camara Copyright (c) Mon, 30 Dec 2019 00:00:00 +0800
