Applying the textual analysis method, the study analyzes various styles of thinking portrayed in the Qur’an and its impacts on the human intellect and behaviour. The thinking styles of the Qur’an are very effective in bringing the much needed progress and development to human lives on this planet, particularly the Muslims who are lagging behind the other communities in various sectors of life. The research findings indicate that the Qur’anic approach towards thinking besides being critical is creative, analytical and contemplative. Man’s position as God’s best creation and as the recipient of the creative intelligence from his Creator has further advanced him in mastering science and technology. As a result of his advancement in knowledge and science in one way or another has ushered Man into creating great civilizations. While the discussion goes on as to whether Man’s creativity is an inborn or a learned behaviour, this paper intends to explore and analyze some of the existing concepts of human creativity found in Western and Islamic psychologies. Very particularly, the researchers would like to examine the concept of creativity put forward by Freudian Psychoanalysis, Behaviorists, Humanistic and Islamic psychologies. Efficient leadership and systemic thinking are issues over which modern scholars have paid special attention. They have written ample books on the two issues. Unfortunately, these works were solely based on speculations from a theoretical perspective. Reference to practical evidences derived from the history was almost missing. History serves as a source of lessons related to all dimensions of human life, including leadership and systemic thinking. The Prophet (s.a.w.) was the most effective leader history has ever witnessed. Reading his biography (<em>sÊrah</em>), particularly the events linked with his 23 years of Islamic mission, leads the readers to the most striking features of effective leadership traits. Since teaching for higher order thinking was made explicit since 1989, a systematic evaluation of the adequacy and pitfalls of teaching for thinking programs was not done extensively.&nbsp; If examination result is the yard stick to measure the impact of teaching for thinking, then it can be concluded that 2016 UPSR result painted a dismal picture of failure in teaching for thinking.&nbsp; Studies showed that there is a positive correlation between language teacher used to communicate in the classroom and the development of thinking dispositions among students.&nbsp; Using the framework of language of thinking put forward by Costa and Marzano (2001), this study was conducted to explore language of thinking used by teachers during teaching and learning sessions in several primary school classrooms.&nbsp; This preliminary study attempted to gain in-depth understanding of the phenomenon in the actual setting so that the insight can illustrate a wider picture of the issue.&nbsp; This exploratory case study employed structured observations to collect data in the classroom of nine primary school teachers.&nbsp; Semenjak kemahiran berfikir pada aras tinggi disebut secara eksplisit dalam kurikulum sekolah menengah dan rendah dari tahun 1989 lagi, satu penilaian yang sistematik terhadap kejayaan dan kelemahan pengajaran untuk kemahiran berfikir tidak dibuat secara meluas dan menyeluruh.&nbsp; Jika keputusan peperiksaan dijadikan kayu ukur untuk mengukur keberkesanan pengajaran untuk berfikir, keputusan peperiksaan UPSR 2016 melukis gambaran kegagalan projek mengajar untuk kemahiran berfikir aras tinggi yang menyedihkan.&nbsp; Kajian menunjukkan ada perkaitan positif antara Bahasa yang digunakan oleh guru ketika berkomunikasi dalam bilik darjah dengan perkembangan disposisi berfikir dikalangan pelajar.&nbsp;&nbsp; Disposisi berfikir pula berkait langsung dengan tabiat berfikir dan kemahiran berfikir aras tinggi.&nbsp; Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meneroka Bahasa berfikir yang digunakan oleh guru dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran di sekolah rendah.&nbsp; Bahasa berfikir yang diterangkan oleh Costa dan Marzano (2001) digunakan sebagai kerangka teori kajian ini.&nbsp; Sebagai Pengamal Perhubungan Awam yang Ideal: Perspektif dari aspek Perilaku) http://journals.iium.edu.my/jiasia/index.php/Islam/article/view/634 <p>Abstract</p> <p>The main objective of this paper is to explore and explain the role of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) as the ideal public relation (PR) practitioner who built the image of Islam through his nonverbal communication. The paper tries to categorize nonverbal communication aspects which were used by the Prophet in his mission, the uses of nonverbal communication in his private life, and to what extent the Prophet's use of nonverbal communication enhanced his role as an ideal public relations practitioner. Based on the exploratory methods on the written biography and intellectual heritage, the paper concluded that Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w..) is the ideal model for anyone who seeks to communicate effectively with others to obtain a high standard of positive feedback. Some aspects of the Prophet’s nonverbal behavior gave us clear evidence that he was the ideal PR practitioner who strived to build the great image of Islam. The acquisition of knowledge involves a process of training and education rather than just learning. From the early days of Islam, knowledge has been considered to be the power that is bestowed upon man in order to qualify him to be the vicegerent of Allah on earth (<em>KhalÊfatullÉh)</em>. Without knowledge man is not strong enough to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a vicegerent (<em>KhalÊfah)</em> to structure his life and his society, as it provides him with values, virtues, visions, beliefs and power. Indeed, knowledge in Islamic worldview is a unique gift from the Creator (the most Omniscience and the only Absolute God) to man. As such, it is vital for the success of man in this world and the Hereafter.&nbsp; Furthermore, it is undeniable fact that, knowledge is the root of man’s progress in this transitory world and a crucial factor in his well-being after his demise. Based on the above facts, this humble paper aims to explore vis-a-vis the importance of knowledge acquisition in the view of Islam and to disclose the serious attention that Islam has paid toward acquisition of knowledge. However, to achieve the aims and the objectives of this paper, revelation based approach is applied, that is by referring to the Holy Scripture of Islam (holy <em>Qur’an</em>) and its perception on knowledge. During the time of Nursi, Turkey had been heavily influenced by secularism under the leadership of Kamal al-Tartuk. The religious values had been marginalized from the practical aspects of man’s life. At the same time, the Muslims world had been dominated by the West in science and technology giving them the strength to control the economic power of the world. This domination had challenged the Muslims intellectually, spiritually and morally. It led to the weak conditions of Muslims. Said Nursi observed that those problems of Muslim could be solved through the educational reform program. He criticized the prevalent educational system in Turkey at that time because it could not produce a balance personality of Muslims as well as it failed to achieve a progress in society. Therefore, the system of education, according to him, must be reoriented accordingly. He proposed for a restructure of the curriculum in order to be aligned with the requirements of Islam and adjusted with the requirements of modern time. Although Nursi’s idea of educational reform was aimed at every level including primary level, secondary level, and university level, he gave emphasis on the university level. Pada zaman beliau, Turki dipengaruhi oleh ideologi secularisme di bawah pemerintahan Kamal al Tartuk. Pada ketika itu, nilai-nilai agama telah diketepikan daripada aspek kehidupan manusia. Pada masa yang sama, dunia Islam telah didominasi oleh dunia barat di dalam&nbsp; sektor sains dan teknologi sekaligus menjadikannya menguasai ekonomi dunia. Dominasi barat ini telah mencabar umat Islam secara intelektual, spiritual dan moral serta menjadikannya lemah pada ketika itu. Said Nursi melihat masalah kelemahan umat Islam dapat diatasi melalui program reformasi pendidikan. Beliau mengkritik sistem pendidikan di Turki pada ketika itu tidak mampu melahirkan personaliti Muslim yang seimbang dan juga gagal mencapai kemajuan dalam masyarakat. Oleh yang demikian, sistem pendidikan , menurut beliau, harus diolah dengan sewajarnya. Beliau menyarankan untuk menstruktur semula kurikulum agar ianya selari dengan kehendak Islam serta dapat memenuhi kehendak masa kini. Walaupun Said Nursi menyarankan idea reformasi pendidikan beliau di semua peringkat; rendah, menengah dan universiti, namun beliau lebih memberi penekanan terhadap peringkat universiti. Among his authoritative works are: <em>Munyat al-MusallÊ, Durr al-ThamÊn, FurË’ al-Masa’il, Minhaj al-‘Óbidin </em>and<em> al-Manhal al-Safi</em> which have been praised for their lucid exposition of the issues addressed by al-Fatani in his writing. The hallmark of his scholarship is undoubtably his creativity and innovation, representing a key characteristic of the Islamic literature of the era and showcasing his gift for elucidating the primary texts of al-Qur’an and al-Hadith. This paper attempts to illustrate al-Fatani’s unique approach employed in his magnificent work entitled <em>Ward al-Zawahir</em>. Despite the existence of consultative councils (<em>majÉlis iftÉ’</em>) in Muslim countries from one perspective and presence of individual efforts by those capable of <em>ijtihÉd</em> and issuing <em>fatwÉ</em> (<em>iftÉ’</em>) from another, their contributions are still limited and does not meet the ends. This poses legitimate questions on factors and causes leading to failure of creativity in basic scientific disciplines that are important in the lives of Muslims. This problem requires an academic study that can answer the aforementioned questions in order to construct solutions. This research combines between inductive and analytical methods and commences with the concept of creativity, its legitimacy, its importance, its role in Islamic legal thought, and importance of considering <em>SharÊ</em><em>ʿah</em> objectives in order to establish creativity. The study then discusses the incapability of the current “religious curriculum” that fell short in producing creative skills. This failure disabled the curriculum to deliver civilizational message in all aspects of life namely thought, culture, society, economics, politics, and contemporary science. In relation to evaluating hadith through studying its chain and its transmitters that eventually leads to the hadith text, there are three categories of evaluators known to the hadith scholars as rigid (<em>tashaddud</em>), moderate (<em>i</em><em>ʿtidÉl</em>) and lenient (<em>tasÉhul</em>). As far as the critical evaluation of the transmitters are concerned, there are ample number of biographical works (<em>kutub al-rijÉl</em>) written on the trustful narrators (<em>al-thiqqÉt</em>) and on the weak narrators (<em>al-</em><em>ḍu</em><em>ʿafÉ’</em>) while some works compiled both types of narrators in one book. Adding onto this, the <em>Hadith</em> scholars were also interested in scrutinizing <em>Hadith</em> through its texts by studying all its variations and its contexts in order to evaluate the status of the <em>hadith</em>. Presently, these methods are being taught as subjects of specialization for the Hadith students. Intrigues, plots and the love of control have accompanied them in their settlings and nomadic life style till the very day.&nbsp; The Jewish political and intellectual leaders do not refrain from revealing such features through social media, publications, and leaflets that aim to establish the idea that they are God’s chosen people.&nbsp; To achieve this, the Jews have used and still use all legal and illegal means. The Holy Quran had excelled in describing the reality of informative deception used by the Jews especially in the time of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) and the direct contact of BanÊ Qurayẓah, BanÊ al-NaḍÊr and Bani QainuqÉʿ with Muslims in Medina.&nbsp; This study investigates the Quranic creativity in exposing deceptive and political methods used by the Jews in their deadly efforts to falsify consciousness and manipulate minds. The researcher utilizes the analytical and historical retrieval methods in this brief study. Amongst the important findings of this work is: The Quran revealed the destructive roles played by the Jews. It unveiled their blatant attitudes and the psychological war they waged against Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) and his mission (<em>da</em><em>ʿwah</em>) through hovering suspicions, spreading rumours, waging wars of futile argument and unreasonable questions. Some even nicknamed al-Masʿūdī as “Herodotus of the Arabs.” This study examines his creativity in study of the history of religions. Using analytical and inductive methodology, the researcher deals with al-MasʿūdÊ’s two primary works, namely: <em>Mur</em><em>ūj al-Dhahab wa Ma</em><em>ʿādin al-Jawhar</em>&nbsp;(<em>The meadows of Gold and Mines of Gems</em>), and <em>Kit</em><em>āb al-Tanb</em><em>īh wa al-Ishr</em><em>āf</em>&nbsp;(<em>The Book of Notification and Verification</em>). In addition to that, the researcher applied historical analysis to uncover the historical aspects of religions under al-Mas’ūdī’s study. The research finds that al-Mas’ūdī employed creative methods to gather and accept information about religions other than Islam. He also demonstrated creative methods of comparison, analysis and classification of world religions.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Keywords:</strong> Creativity, history of religions, eye witness, objectivity, philosophy of religion, classification of religions.</p> مجدان إلياس, محمد نوح عبد الجليل ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://journals.iium.edu.my/jiasia/index.php/Islam/article/view/627 Fri, 19 Jan 2018 00:00:00 +0000 تطوير معايير إدارة الفعاليات تتوافق مع الشريعة الإسلامية لتلبية متطلبات مؤشرات الشريعة الإسلامية الماليزية (Developing a Sustainable 'Muslim Friendly' Standards of Event Management in Malaysia) http://journals.iium.edu.my/jiasia/index.php/Islam/article/view/629 <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>الملخّص</p> <p>لقد أدركت المنظمة الدولية لتوحيد المقاييس أهمية توفير المعايير والمبادئ التوجيهية لإدارة الفعاليات، مما أدى في النهاية إلى إيجاد معيار إدارة الفعاليات أصبح معروفا بـ:ISO 2012 :2012 وهي عبارة عن نظم إدارة استدامة الفعاليات : المتطلبات مع توجيهات استخدامها في عام 2012م المستوحاة أصلا من المعيار البريطاني لإدارة الفعاليات " BS8901" عام 2005. لكن الذي يؤخذ على المعايير المشار إليها سابقا هو عدم مطابقتها مع الشريعة الإسلامية فترُكز هذه المقالة على تطوير المعايير المستدامة لإدارة الفعاليات المطابقة بالشريعة في ماليزيا كونها دولة ذات أغلبية مسلمة. من خلال تطبيق أسلوب تحليل النصوص على الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية المتعلقة بإدارة الحدث، توصلت الدراسة إلى عدة مبادئ توجيهية هامة والقيم لمعايير لإدارة الفعاليات وهي التوحيد، والوسطية، والاعتدال، والإحسان، والتميز، والإتقان، والجودة وتحقيق مقاصد الشريعة. فجميع هذه العناصر تشكل مفهوما شاملا للإسلام بوصفه الدين وطريقة الحياة التي يسعى إلى ترسيخ الاعتدال والتوازن في كل الأمور، آخذا في الاعتبار اختلاف الديانات والمعتقدات، بما في ذلك من مشاعر غير المسلمين. تشتمل عملية تنظيم هذا الحدث على ثلاث مراحل أساسية؛ وهي: التخطيط، والتنظيم،&nbsp; والرقابة فهي تعتبر أهم الجوانب التي يجب إخضاعها للمبادئ التوجيهية الموضوعة. وتقترح الدراسة نظرة عامة عن معايير إدارة الفعاليات المطابقة بالشريعة الإسلامية التي من شأنها أن تساهم في تحقيق الهدف حتى تكون ماليزيا أحد أهم المراكز في العالم التي تسير على هذه الأسس في إدارةالأحداث.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>الكلمات المفتاحية:</strong> إدارة الحدث، حلال، ماليزيا، الإمتثال للشريعة الإسلامية.</p> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <p>Abstract</p> <p>The International Organization of Standardization has realized the importance of providing standards and guidelines for event management, which ultimately led to the existence of event management standard; ISO 20121: 2012 Event sustainability management systems - Requirements with guidance for using it in 2012". It was started out earlier by the British Standard for "'BS8901 Event Management Standard" in 2005. The mentioned standards are not fully compliant with the <em>SharÊ</em><em>ʿah</em> requirements. The present study focuses on developing a sustainable ‘Muslim friendly’ standard of event management in Malaysia a Muslim-majority country. By employing textual analysis method on the Quranic verses and the Prophetic hadith related to event management, the study finds several important Guiding Principles (GP) and values for <em>SharÊ</em><em>ʿah</em> compliance event management standards (SCEMS) such as <em>al-Taw</em><em>ḥÊd</em>&nbsp; (Divine Unity), <em>al-Wasatiyyah</em> (the Moderation), <em>al-TawÉzun</em> (the Balance), <em>al-</em><em>ʿAdl</em> (the Justice), <em>al-I</em><em>ḥsÉn</em> (the Excellence), <em>al-ItqÉn</em> (the Quality) and <em>MaqÉ</em><em>ṣid al-SharÊ</em><em>ʿah</em> (The SharÊʿah Objectives). All of these elements are built on a comprehensive understanding of the concept of Islam as a <em>DÊn</em> (Religion) and a way of life which promotes moderation and balance in all matters as well as considers the diversity of faith, including the non-Muslim sentiments. The content and the process of organising an event, which involves three basic phases: <em>Al-TakhÏÊÏ</em> (planning), <em>al-Tan</em><em>ẓÊm</em> (organizing) and <em>al-RiqÉbah</em> (controlling) of the event are the most important <em>SharÊ</em><em>ʿah</em> based critical point that must adhere to the GP.
