Abstract

Introduction: Cochlear Implant has become the main stream treatment choice for patients with profound sensorineural hearing loss. As the technology of implants and sound processing improves, the candidacy criteria have evolved to encompass more types and categories of patients.

Methods: The Speech & Hearing Centre of Sunway Medical Centre Sdn Bhd has been doing cochlear implants since 2004. The primary team currently comprises of two ENT Surgeons, four Audiologists and two Speech Therapists.

Results: We have successfully implanted 49 patients and 60 ears to date. For a successful outcome, assessment for cochlear implant candidacy plays a significant role.

Conclusions: We will highlight the battery of tests, audiogram results, length of deafness and other areas which comprise our assessment protocol in this poster.
