Abstract

This paper attempts to highlight the use of Arabic religious words in the Malay language. The authors highlight the issue of how vocabularies of the Arabic language are employed in the Malay language and are used in the preparation of reading texts for Malaysian secondary school students. The authors employ a qualitative methodology by applying textual and content analyses on selected cases related to the issue in question. Findings reveal that in order to assist in the comprehension of the Arabic language among young Malays, many Arabic vocabularies are borrowed and exploited in preparing reading texts in Arabic for the religious stream secondary-school students of the Malaysian Educational system.
